Position Description:

SE Design and Consulting Inc. has an immediate opportunity for a Planning Technician to support the Development Planning team by assisting with technical drafting and written content for Area Structure Plans and related planning documents at our Cold Lake, Alberta office.

Position Duties:

Technical Drafting & Mapping

Produce high‑quality CAD drawings, concepts, and figures for Area Structure Plans, Outline Plans, Site Plans, Plot Plans, subdivision layouts, and other planning documents.
Prepare and format planning maps, graphics, and technical figures in support of statutory and non‑statutory planning documents.

Planning Document Preparation

Assist with writing, editing, and assembling planning reports, including sections, tables, technical appendices, and supporting documentation.
Contribute written content to Area Structure Plans, Outline Plans, and related planning studies.

Data & Information Management

Compile background research, technical information, and supporting data required for planning projects.
Coordinate and organize information received from internal departments, external consultants, and project stakeholders.
Maintain accurate digital and physical filing systems, ensuring consistent document version control.

Project & Engagement Support

Prepare presentation materials for public engagement sessions and assist with session facilitation as needed.
Provide general support for planning and project coordination activities across the department.

Qualifications:

Diploma or degree in Urban Planning, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, with solid experience using Civil 3D for drafting planning concepts, site plans, plot plans, and subdivision layouts. (Core requirement)
Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, well‑organized technical drawings and planning figures using CAD tools.
GIS experience (ArcGIS or similar) is considered an asset but is not required for day‑to‑day work.
Ability to read and interpret foundation plans; experience redrafting or preparing foundation‑related drawings is considered an asset.
Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to prepare concise planning reports and supporting documentation.
Working knowledge of municipal planning processes and land‑use planning principles.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage deadlines while coordinating multiple tasks.
Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, and able to work independently or collaboratively within a team environment.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Positive work ethic, adaptability, and willingness to support a variety of planning and project tasks.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
